Régis Labeaume, candidat séparatriste

Coming soon, a renewed enraged separatist for mayor of Quebec.

Mayor Labeaume is counting again on the federal government to rain money down on him. His new NHL sized arena demands that the province and country (Canada) pay $350 million while the city scrapes together $50 million. Aren't these things usually split 3 ways with public money with or without additional private funding? After much bitching about "what Montreal got", the convention centre was built with a 1/3 share from Canada. You can tell when Canadian tourists are in town and paying to use the convention centre because it's the only time they will fly a Canadian flag there. The rest of the time it is replaced with the beloved and historic Quebec City Convention Centre flag.

Canadian tourists in town

No Canadians paying today

If you compare the Calgary winter olympic bid process against that of the Quebec City bid a few years later, you see that in Quebec, they always demand more largess from the federal government, supposedly because they are poor (but still paying for the rest of Canada according to the rumour).

Then, of course, there's the $1 billion+ Montreal to Quebec City TVG he expects Canada to pay for.

When the answer "no" arrives, expect him to huff and puff and blow the house down.
